In a horrific act of violence, at least 30 people were killed in an attack on a childcare center in northeastern Thailand. The assailant went on to take his own life. Police said that both children and adults were among the victims.

Thailand Daycare Center Attack
Police said, “The gunman’s name is Panya Khamrab and he was a former police officer”. The gunman went home and also killed his wife, child, and himself after the attack. His age was 34 and he was dismissed for drug use from the force last year.
The gunman opened fire early on Thursday afternoon in the child daycare center located in the town of Nong Bua Lamphu said Police Major General Achayon Krathong.

Thai Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-Ocha expressed his condolences to the families of the victims and said that officials were doing everything they could to ” bring those responsible to justice.” He also announced that he was canceling his trip to South Korea so that he could focus on the situation.

Al Jazeera’s reporter Cheng said, “We understand now there are more than 31 fatalities including a large number of children. A suspect was chased from the scene in a white pick-up truck,”.
Thailand shooting at least 34 killed
According to a Thai media report when the gunman entered the center about 30 children are in the daycare at lunchtime. He shot four of five daycare center staff first. He also shot a teacher who was eight months pregnant.
People thought it was a firework at first. The gunman also uses a knife and after the attack, he ran away from the building. Then he was riding his motorcycle. The gunman rammed a motorbike and two people were injured on the way.
